Rugby star Charlie Hodgson has been forced to kick his honeymoon into touch after he was called up to join England's World Cup training squad.

The former Bradford Grammar School pupil will marry fiancee Daisy Hartley at the Priory Church, beside the River Wharfe in Bolton Abbey, on Saturday.

The 170-strong wedding party, which will include some of Charlie's club and country team-mates, will then return to Daisy's family home where a marquee will be set up in the large garden.

But Charlie, 26, has had to put thoughts of an immediate honeymoon to the back of his mind after declaring himself fit for the England rugby union team's 12-day training camp in Portugal, which starts the day after the wedding.

The Sale Sharks fly-half and Daisy, an auctioneer in the family business Hartley's in Ilkley, had been planning to have their honeymoon next week at the Peebles Hydro Hotel, in the Scottish borders.

But they have cancelled the trip after Charlie recovered from a long-term cruciate knee ligament injury and was named in the 47-man World Cup training squad.

Daisy, also 26, said: "He is going away on Sunday, which is not the best timing. We thought we could get a few days in Scotland, but the training camp is a week earlier than we thought it would be.

"Of course I'm disappointed but you expect things like this. It's part of his job and part of my job being his future wife. You can never really make plans.

"We are all very excited about the wedding and all the plans are in place."

Charlie proposed to Daisy when they took a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon, in Arizona.

Charlie and Daisy were in the same friendship class at Bradford Grammar School and kept in touch afterwards, eventually getting together when they went to university.

Daisy said: "He missed the last World Cup and was really frustrated, but touch wood he will be fine and ready to play in this one."
