TWO Bradford councillors have both seen their good work recognised tonight with Local Government annual achievement awards.

Cllr Joanne Dodds (Lab, Great Horton) has won the 2016 Cllr Achievement Award for Metropolitan Borough Councillor of the Year.

Meanwhile, Cllr Fozia Shaheen (Lab, Toller) was selected as Young Councillor of the Year for demonstrating a commitment to working for her community.

Cllr Dodds, Mayor of Bradford during the 2015/16 year, was selected as Metropolitan Borough Councillor of the Year for being a committed to her ward's residents and bringing about positive change in her community.

Junior Safety Rangers saw her work with primary schools to help students make the right choices around water safety, drugs and alcohol.

It involved working with the police, magistrates, trading standards and the fire service.

In recognition of her work, the police awarded Cllr Dodds a Divisional Commanders award.

Meanwhile, Cllr Shaheen's work on the Learning Disability project, which provides five day-a-week, culturally appropriate day care for adults with learning disabilities and over the years has been instrumental in developing and expanding this provision.

The awards ceremony, held in London, is only national ceremony to honour the hard work of councillors from across the country.
