A GROUP of five construction apprentices has been taken on by a social housing group.

Electricians Baily Burdett, 17, and Victoria Cherrington, 25, plumber Kyle Throupe, 22, joiner Adam Ahmed, 21, and plasterer Matthew Brady, 16, have started their careers with Incommunities.

Each apprentice will be trained by experienced trade professionals from the organisation's Buildingservice team on construction and repair work.

They will attend college one day each week to work towards NVQ qualifications in their particular trade area.

Mr Burdett, from Cullingworth, said: "I've been interested in training to become an electrician and doing the taster course made my mind up.

"I can't wait to get started with my apprenticeship."

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities group chief executive, said: "A growing number of young people are turning to construction apprenticeships as their career of choice and as a responsible employer we are committed to continuing to invest in young talent.

"Apprenticeships are at the heart of our business and integral to developing a diverse and multi-skilled workforce.

"I wish our five new starters all the best as they take their first steps towards exciting new careers."

Incommunities has trained 130 apprentices over the last 13 years, with almost 98 per cent of them achieving their professional qualifications.
