A TEN-year-old girl from Birkenshaw has braved the chop twice and donated her long locks to a charity for a second time.

Charlie Smith, a year five pupil at Birkenshaw Primary School, was in front of the whole school during assembly when her haircut took place.

She is now able to donate a 17 and a half inch long plait of hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Mum Joanne Smith said that Charlie's elder sister Drew, 18, a qualified hairdresser, had attended the school assembly to perform the hair cut.

"Charlie first donated her hair three years ago after complaining about having her knotty hair brushed. Then after having it cut to her chin, she said straight away that she would grow it again to donate to the charity.

"It's taken three years to get it down to her bum. This time she was able to have it cut to shoulder-length and still have a plait 17 and a half inches long to send to the Little Princess Trust.

"I'm very proud of her."
