KIRKLEES Council has warned residents of possible delays to refuse collection services following a fire at the Thornhill Transfer Station in Dewsbury.
The site, which is used by the majority of refuse and recycling wagons in North Kirklees to tip their collections, has been closed until the extent of the damage caused by the blaze is known.
A council spokesman said: “As all vehicles will now have to travel further to empty the wagons there will be a knock-on effect on collections, which may lead to some taking place later than usual. Residents are advised to be patient and if possible leave their bins out until they are emptied.
“As all staff will be needed to help out with bin collections, bulky waste collections, and commercial waste collections are also likely to be affected.”
Residents who usually use the Dewsbury site will be able to use council sites at Nab Lane in Birstall and Emerald Street in Huddersfield.
