THE fate of a new supermarket building remains uncertain with rival retailers unable to confirm if they are interested in it.
The Netto store in Northgate, Cleckheaton, is one of 16 closing after Sainsbury’s decided to bring a joint venture to an end.
The store, which Howard Park Primary School pupils helped open on May 26 (pictured), is thought to be of interest to rivals Aldi and Lidl, but they remain tight-lipped, despite rumours of meetings there.
An Aldi spokesman said: “We are always considering new locations for stores across the UK, including around the Cleckheaton area. As always, when we have confirmed a location for a new store we will update the local community.”
A Lidl spokesman said: “We are always looking to expand our store portfolio but have no confirmed sites in Cleckheaton at this time.”
