A ROOFER who ransacked a house, stealing £8,000 of jewellery, while the family were at a funeral has been jailed.
Daniel Morley, 25, raided the property on Manscombe Road, Barkerend, Bradford, to pay off a drug debt.
Morley, of Freshfield Gardens, Allerton, Bradford, pleaded guilty to stealing jewellery, phones and computer equipment in the daylight burglary on April 3.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp told Bradford Crown Court today that Morley at first denied going into the house, blaming a man who turned out to have been in custody at the time.
“He now accepts that it was his project, and his alone,” Mr Sharp said.
Morley had previous convictions for commercial burglary and shoplifting.
His barrister, Stephen Wood, said he had kept out of trouble for more than four years and was in full-time employment.
Jailing Morley for eight months, Judge Neil Davey QC said: “One can hardly imagine how distressing it must have been for the family.”
Later, Judge Davey called Morley back into the courtroom and revised his jail sentence to six months to take into account his guilty plea.
