A BRADFORD man is cycling 500 miles around Yorkshire for his latest charity challenge.

Jamie Boyle, 37, is looking to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support by getting on his bike and touring the county.

He set off on his cycling challenge yesterday at Mel’s Diner, Cleckheaton Road, Odsal Top, and hopes to complete the two-week challenge by Friday, July 1.

He hopes to take on a number of routes including from Bradford to Scarborough and back, to the Yorkshire Dales and take in other routes around places in the county including Howarth and Hebden Bridge. He has even shown his dedication to the cause by dying his hair green, the colour of the cancer charity’s logo, for the length of his ride.

Mr Boyle, of Sal Royd Road, Low Moor, said: “This is just a personal challenge. I wanted to give something back.

“I will be trying to clock as many miles as I can each day I do it, as I won’t be able to cycle every day. I will be doing it when I can and go to as many places in Yorkshire as I can too.

“I will be doing as many miles as I can during this weekend. It is just myself doing it.

“I’m open to calling in to places on my travels to say thanks for the continued support.

“I want to say thank you to everyone so far for inspiring me to continue my positive work.

“I will be cycling around God’s country that is Yorkshire. It is my latest fundraiser. Cancer is horrible and tough. I would not wish it on anybody.

“I am doing the challenge on my holiday break.

“I always look to give back to charities.”

Mr Boyle raised £11,500 last year for University of Bradford’s Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit by producing T-shirts and hoodies to mark the 30th anniversary since the Bradford City Fire Disaster, which killed 56 fans at Valley Parade on May 11, 1985.

He was aged seven and would have been at Valley Parade on the day of the fire, had his father not been at work.

He was honoured for his charity work with a civic reception at Bradford City Hall in November last year.

The Street Angel volunteer has raised thousands of pounds for a number of charities including St Martin’s Hospice, Clic Sergeant children with cancer and St James’s Hospital Children’s Ward.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a nationwide charity, set up in 1911, that helps those suffering from the disease. It has a call centre based in Shipley.
