A SCHOOL has started an investigation after one of its pupils was filmed brandishing a metal pole beside one of its minibuses.

A group of boys, believed to be aged about 13, was captured on video by garages at a block of flats in Lilac Grove, Laisterdyke.

A resident saw a Bradford Academy-branded minibus park up and the adult driver get out to pick up a pupil from the flats who had not turned up to school.

While the driver went to collect the pupil, a group of seven children was spotted sitting on top of the blue and white minibus.

The driver then returned without the missing pupil and got straight back into the vehicle.

The pupils, some of whom were smoking, continued to loiter outside the minibus and one of them can be seen picking up a metal pole.

The resident said the group members then began hitting each other with the pole.

In video footage, sent to the Telegraph & Argus, one boy is seen brandishing the metal pole and holding it up to his shoulder in a javelin-style pose.

The incident, which was said to last for ten minutes, took place at shortly after 10am on Friday, May 13.

The woman witness, who did not want to be named, said she could not believe what she saw and complained directly to the school.

She said: “I was fuming when I saw it.

“If they were my children, I would be absolutely disgusted that they were doing things like that.

“The teacher was sat in the minibus while seven young lads got out of the minibus. They were all smoking.

“They beat each other up with a metal pole.

“They took things a bit too far.

“The lads were swinging the pole around.

“I don’t think they were older than 13, each of them.

“They were doing it for around ten minutes.

“The children were hitting each other and were quite forceful.

“The majority of the children were sitting on top of the minibus while the teacher was away from the bus.

“Why were they allowed for this to happen?

“I called the school about it and they said that they would deal with it. I think the school were embarrassed about it.”

Tehmina Hashmi, acting principal at Bradford Academy, confirmed the school had received a complaint about the incident after the T&A sent a copy of the video to the school.

She said the matter was under investigation and that it would be inappropriate to comment further.
