FORMER Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Mike Gibbons has handed more than £23,000 to the Marie Curie Bradford Hospice.

Cllr Gibbons, who was the mayor in 2014/15, was joined by Civic Affairs Manager Loraine Radcliffe at the hospice, in Maudsley Street, today.

He gave hospice manager Elaine Hill the money which was raised, with the help of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Committee, during his year of office.

Fundraising events included the inaugural Dragon Boat Race at Robert’s Park in Saltaire.

Marie Curie Community Fundraiser Sharon Link said: “We’d like to thank Cllr Gibbons for choosing Marie Curie to benefit from his 2014/15 Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

“The amount raised will cover 1,150 hours of nursing care at the hospice.

“Marie Curie cares for anyone with a terminal illness, and their families, and we rely heavily on the generosity of the community we serve so to be chosen to benefit from the Lord Mayor’s Appeal was a huge honour.”
