A COUPLE from Bradford will stand trial later this year after each denied an offence under the Terrorism Act relating to Syria.
Husband and wife Ijaz and Afsheen Khan made a short appearance at Leeds Crown Court yesterday when a date was fixed for their trial of November 14.
They had previously appeared in January at a hearing at the Old Bailey via a video link.
Ijaz Khan, 28, pleaded not guilty to the preparation of terrorism acts in that on or before February 1 last year he engaged in conduct to put into effect a plan to travel to Syria in order to commit acts of terrorism.
Afsheen Khan, 27, denied the preparation of terrorism acts with the intention of assisting her husband by giving him money for his travel to Syria.
Both are on bail with conditions to reside at an address in Bradford, to report twice a week to the police, to surrender passports and not to apply for international travel documents.
The court heard from Julian Evans prosecuting that the trial could last up to two weeks and dates were set for service of some evidence in the case.
The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC warned them to keep in contact with their solicitors.
The investigation was carried out by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.
