WE'VE recently had a mixed bag of unseasonal weather.

After months of being deluged by rain thankfully it seems we are finally getting the climate to suit the season if predictions prove true for a baking hot weekend.

The warm weather is a welcome relief from the chilly climates we've been recently experiencing and many of us will appreciate being able to finally put our brollies away and venture out into the outdoors to make the most of it while we can.

As spring swiftly progresses summer will soon be here, a season to look forward to, bringing with it, we hope, beautiful warm days and balmy evenings - perfect opportunity for stoking up the barbecue.

There will be galas offering plenty of family fun and countless colourful floats transporting young Queens to the local village fetes and community carnivals.

Concerts and festivals will bring music to the masses; the seaside will welcome its many tourists and open air pools will prove even more appealing to cool off when the heat is on.

Fairgrounds are another attraction and here we take a dip into our archives to show two contrasting images reminding us very much of the weather we have experienced lately, showers and sunshine.

Our first atmospheric image, taken on April 9, 1980, shows beautiful sunshine streaming through the clouds as revellers enjoy the carousel in Lister Park, Bradford.

But, as our second photograph - taken on May 27, 1969 - shows, this really is a tale of two different seasons when the downpours turned the fairground at Peel Park into a quagmire.
