THE hall of a Bradford primary school was turned into a WWII munitions factory as part of an event to bring literacy to life.
St Cuthbert and the First Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School was the scene of a murder mystery drama which asked pupils to solve a murder and write a news story about it.
Around 120 pupils were set the task, one of a series of literacy “wow factor” events the school is providing over the coming weeks.
The play was set in 1943 in the Yorkshire bomb factory, and as the action unfolded, children were asked to work in groups to discuss the plot and work out which character is the murderer.
The drama was acted by the Double Take Drama Group.
Head teacher Rachel Winnery said: “We ran the day to enhance the creative writing skills of the pupils. They were asked to think about the audience they are writing for as a newspaper or radio reporter. We are holding several events over the next few weeks which will help to develop and extend creative writing skills throughout the school.”
