A 53-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital after a suspected assault in Bradford city centre. 

Police were called to the incident in Sunbridge Road at just before 1pm, where the man had suffered an ankle injury. 

A cordon was put up in Bradford city centre after the incident.

Police are investigating reports he was assaulted and enquiries are ongoing, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

A man could be seen lying on the ground outside the Cooperative bank at the bottom of Sunbridge Road. 

Two police cars were on the scene and armed officers could be seen in attendance.

Dozens of onlookers watched as police set up a cordon and carried out inquiries at the scene.
