DINERS were given a unique insight into a Yorkshire family’s experience with cancer during a special charity evening at the Prashad restaurant in Drighlington.

The event was organised by owner Bobby Patel and Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR), a partner in the recent Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.

Mr Patel is trying to raise awareness of cancer in his local community after his father, Mohan, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year.

The 67-year-old recently completed his treatment at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The evening, which raised £311 for YCR, included a sample menu of vegetarian cuisine, an introduction to Indian culture from Kaushy Patel, founder of Prashad and successful author of two cookery books, a talk by Zulfi Hussain, a trustee at YCR, and an auction.

Mr Patel said: "We had a wonderful evening, warm and very informative.

"My dad was able to share his story and thank the many facets of cancer teams within the NHS."

Stephanie Jones, regional fundraiser for YCR, said: "Mohan and Bobby are very passionate about raising awareness across Bradford and other areas of Yorkshire that need our help, and we are extremely grateful to them for their support."
