POLICE are investigating an arson attack on a car which spread to a house, damaging a front room and a porch late last night.

An arsonist poured an accelerant on to the front of a Citroen Picasso parked on a residential drive in Banksfield Avenue, Yeadon.

The incident happened at 11.30pm.

A fire crew from Rawdon were at the scene within minutes and managed to stop the flames from spreading further.

A fire service spokesman said: "The fire had spread to the front room and porch area. The rapid intervention of the Rawdon crew stopped it from escalating into a more severe incident."

People in the house had made their way to safety before fire crews arrived.

The fire blew out the windows of the porch and caused smoke damage to the property.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that the fire had been started deliberately.

"Our forensics people have attended and statements have been taken at the crime scene.

"Accelerants had been poured on the front of the vehicle."
