Sharon Lambert, head of Allerton Primary School, made the shortlist for the Leadership Award for the second year running, this year winning the prize.

She had been nominated by a grandparent of a child from the school, Susan Brown, who praised the head for her commitment and leadership in making the school a "shining light" for what primary schools can be.

She said: “This experienced headteacher has always been totally committed to the education of Bradford children.

“Despite all the negative things we hear about education in our great city, Allerton school is every thing a Bradford school should be. It is a model of diversity, of culture, faith and socio-economic backgrounds resulting in an internally cohesive school where staff, pupils and parents value each other.

“This success does not happen overnight, is not a short-lived trial, it is the result of the excellent headteacher.

“This dedicated, experienced, popular, friendly, totally-committed loving leader makes sure that the school leaves no stone unturned in its effort to respond to every pupil’s needs in often-changing circumstances.

Mrs Lambert said: "I've served the community of Allerton for a long time and I love what I do.

"I'm absolutely thrilled for all the children and all the community of Allerton. And I particularly thank the staff at the school who have supported me in making Allerton the school that it is, as well as the fantastic children, parents and community."

The award was sponsored by Schofield Sweeney.
