FAMILY and friends of a woman whose organs were donated to help save the lives of others have raised more than £600 in her memory.

Carrie-Anne Smith collapsed suddenly over Christmas 2014 after suffering a brain aneurysm and died shortly afterwards, but her mum, Anita, ensured her daughter's wish to donate her organs was carried out.

Her actions have helped to save four people's lives, including a young girl who was in need of a heart transplant, and last year, her gift of life was honoured with the award of an Order of St John, which is presented to the families of those who have saved and improved lives through organ donation.

A fundraising event was held at the Ravenscliffe Community Centre, near where Miss Smith grew up, on what would have been her 33rd birthday on Saturday.

It was organised by her mother, sister Kym, and friend Leah McKenzie, who said: "Everyone came in the right spirit, and we're really pleased with how it went.

"It would have been Carrie-Anne's birthday, which is a hard day for her mum, but it was nice to put some kind of positive spin on the day."
