THE 'Britain Stronger In Europe' campaign rolled into Bradford today with a message that EU membership was worth more than 363,000 jobs to Yorkshire and the Humber.

The campaign's advertising van was stationed outside City Hall on its tour of the region, with leaders stating that Britain's membership of the EU was vital for free trade and job opportunities.

Those behind the campaign claim that one in seven jobs across the region are linked to trade with the EU, with the bulk of those - 174,538 out of 363,434 - in the manufacturing sector.

Leaders also state that goods exports from businesses in Yorkshire and the Humber to the EU account for £8.5 billion a year.

Will Straw, executive director of Britain Stronger in Europe, said: "All over the country, people’s pay packets depend on our membership of the EU.

"That’s why we’re sending advertising vans to drive the length and the breadth of the country with a message about the substantial boost to jobs in their area from being part of the world’s largest marketplace."

None of Bradford's MPs have officially signed up to support the 'Britain Stronger In Europe' campaign, but its membership does include Greg Mulholland, Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West, and Jo Cox, Labour MP for Batley and Spen.
