FRIENDS of a "one of a kind" Bradford College student who died at the age of 21 will honour his memory by funding a well in Nepal.

Suresh Ram was two years into a three year degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing at the college when he died of natural causes last summer.

News of the his death shocked his fellow students at the college.

His many friends and classmates were determined to do something positive to remember Suresh and have raised enough money to set up a well in Nepal.

Between them they have given £300 to the Penny Appeal, a charity that runs projects in crisis hit countries across the world.

The money will go to build a permanent well in an impoverished community.

Classmate Aneeka Naz said: “Suresh was one of a kind. He touched everyone's hearts. We all miss him very much.

“As a class we wanted to do something to remember him by and pay our respects.”

One of the Penny Appeal's projects is building wells in remote areas of Asia, where residents have no access to running water.

The college students were given a selection of places they could sponsor a well in, including Pakistan, India, Africa and Bangladesh. They chose to sponsor a well in Nepal, as they felt it was the place which needed it the most.

The one-off donation of £300 will fully pay for the well to be installed, giving residents much-needed access to clean water.

Suresh, originally of Wolverhampton, died at his home in Leeds in the summer break from his course, shortly before he was due to begin his third year at the college.

Fellow student Junaid Patel, added: “Suresh was a big character in class and we wanted to do something to represent him and the friendship everyone had with him.”

Another friend, Aroosa Tanwir, said: “I feel proud to do something so honourable in memory of Suresh.

“I hope the well benefits many people in the near future and I am sure this is what Suresh will have wanted.”

Zain Ali, who was also in Suresh’s class, said: “Hopefully by doing this in his memory we not only help the people in Nepal but also show his family he was an important person to his follow students and the college. As a friend he meant a lot to us all.”

The well is under construction and should be completed and operational by the end of April.
