There's no excuse for having nothing to do in the district this Bank Holiday weekend, whatever the weather.

A host of events are taking place, from a 15th century re-enactment to an appearances by children's favourite Thomas the Tank Engine.

Bradford Council is holding a free Big Swim to mark the opening of Ilkley Lido on Saturday. Although the majority of activities will be indoors, the outdoor pool and grounds will be available.

Bradford Council is also encouraging youngsters to be active by offering a range of events to try for as little as £1 per session over the weekend.

Sessions in badminton, basketball, cricket, studio cycling and football are on offer at Council-run sports centres across the district. On Monday the only Council-run sports centres and pools open are Ilkley Lido, Richard Dunn Sports Centre and The Leisure Centre, Keighley, from 10am to 4.30pm.

The Red Wyvern Society will be holding a Whit weekend living history event at Skipton Castle between 10am and 5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Members re-enact life as it was in 1415, just before Henry V set off to win the Battle of Agincourt.

Thomas the Tank Engine returns to Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, from Saturday to Monday. Tickets are £8 at the station gate.

Johnny Depp lookalike Carmelo Masi visits The Leisure Exchange in Bradford on Saturday at a pirate fun day to mark the release of Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End.

Scouts in Bradford North will be holding a Centenary Camp to celebrate 100 years of Scouting from tomorrow until Tuesday.

More than 200 children and adults will take part in activities including climbing, kayaking, archery, riding and mountain biking at the Blackhills Scout Campsite, Lee Lane, Cottingley.

The National Media Museum, in Bradford, will be holding two grand openings. From Saturday it will be the first cinema in the country to show the adventure, Dinosaurs Alive! 3D, narrated by Michael Douglas. And The Dawn of Colour exhibition opens tomorrow, celebrating 100 years of the first practical process for colour photography.

Bradford City will be holding football coaching camps during half term at Thornton Recreation Centre from Thursday, May 29, until Friday, June 1. The event is for five to 14-year-olds and costs £3. A one-day goalkeeping course will take place on Thursday, May 31, costing £11.
