Couples in Bradford looking to get away on a romantic Valentine's weekend break in Paris will face the most expensive flights in the country, according to a survey.

The research, carried out by ticket comparison site Idealo, found that a return ticket for couples flying from Leeds-Bradford Airport to Paris for a weekend break work at £246 per person.

This is the highest out of the UK's 15 major airports, and £128 more expensive than the cheapest tickets available at Gatwick Airport.

Gatwick, Luton and Heathrow make up the top three airports for the cheapest tickets for people looking to get away to the French capital for February 14, and it was also revealed to be cheaper to get there from Scottish airports in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, despite them being more than 200 miles further away from Paris.

Edinburgh, Cardiff and Birmingham are the only airports outside the M25 where tickets are under £200, and the report suggested that people who live outside London are continually missing out on the best deals on flights.

A spokesman at Leeds-Bradford Airport said that there are many different reasons for ticket prices to vary from day-to-day and airport-to-airport.

He said: "First of all Jet2 is the only airline which flies to Paris from Leeds-Bradford so there is only a limited number of flights in operation, in fact there is only one on February 12.

"For most other airports, especially those with lower prices, there is more choice in flight times and airlines and more capacity to choose from, which means there is increased availability so the businesses are trying to get more customers."

He said that it could be that Jet2 is very close to selling out and only have a few seats left, hence why the price is shown to be high.

"There are many reasons why prices vary, it is all according to the number of flights and seats available and competitiveness in the marketplace, and also the timings of flights.

"People will pay for very sociable times to fly and the time of the Jet2 flight on February 12 is a very popular time for customers."

Leeds-Bradford-based airline Jet2 did not want to comment on the report, saying it did not believe the research was "robust enough".
