Police evacuated a block of flats at 7.41am today after discovering a gas leak coming from outside the building, sparking fears a nearby primary school would have to close.
Officers on duty in the Green Lane area of Manningham on an unrelated incident smelled gas and heard a high-pitched noise.
They immediately cordoned off the road and started to evacuate Picton House.
Firefighters also attended the incident.
The leak was repaired by British Gas Network and residents were allowed back to their homes at 8.22am.
