A TERRIFYING attack on a house which injured a toddler was only the latest incident in a sustained campaign of criminal damage, according to the child's father.

Abdul Malik, 47, said he and his family have been left traumatised, adding that in his view the police response has so far done nothing to halt the onslaught.

"Every time the police send someone different, but they've been no help," he said. "I feel like I'm living in a jail. But jail would be better than my house."

He said his home in Victoria Road, in the Knowle Park area of Keighley, had been vandalised on six occasions by the same two men, who have hurled bricks and rocks, shattering nearly every window.

He has been forced to cover his windows with wire mesh to try and provide some form of protection.

The most recent incident happened at 1.30am on December 12 when a brick was thrown through a window of Mr Malik's house. Flying glass cut the foot of his youngest child – a three and a half-year-old girl.

Mr Malik, a married father of five, said he has lived in the house for nine years but had experienced no problems until these attacks began about six months ago.

He said he has also received a series of threatening phone calls, which coincided with when the physical attacks occurred.

Family friend Ashraf Ali Ullah said Mr Malik was being deliberately targeted over a personal grudge.

Mr Ullah said his friend believed the police had been ineffectual, saying officers had even suggested Mr Malik and his family should move to a different home.

"The police have said they can't do anything because of a lack of evidence," he said.

"They advised Mr Malik to install CCTV, but after he did this they said the quality of the footage wasn't good enough.

"Mr Malik's wife is scared and he has young children who are frightened to come out of their house.

"This is taking its toll on him, and he's suffering nightmares. Where is he supposed to go? What is he supposed to do?

"He's a member of our society who is being victimised, and he should be getting help from the community and from the police."

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police investigated a series of damages at Mr Malik's house in August. These were reportedly linked to a dispute and stopped after a local councillor acted as a mediator.

"Officers have visited the complainant following this latest incident, and are following available lines of enquiry.

"A team of officers is now reviewing these incidents to establish what further action can be taken and the councillor has also been informed of the latest incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 506 Palmer at Keighley Police on 101, or 0800 555111 for the independent charity Crimestoppers."
