TRAIN passengers were evacuated by police at Guiseley station this afternoon after two men were reported to be acting suspiciously.

British Tranport Police, supported by West Yorkshire Police, boarded the train to speak to the two men following a call just after 3pm.

A BTP spokesman said checks were carried out and the men were spoken to but no action was needed as it was a false alarm.

It is understood that the men had a bag which a passenger thought looked suspicious.

Passengers were asked to leave the train as a precaution and were allowed back on a short time later, BTP said.

"The report was made in good faith. We are really pleased that people are being vigilant and are reporting their concerns to us.

"If people have any doubts, they should call police."

Passengers can text information to BTP via the number 61016, or call 999 in an emergency.

Bradford Councillor Vanda Greenwood, who was on the train, tweeted: "Been evacuated off the Ilkley train at Guiseley while the train was searched. Now getting back on, this will be the longest 5 mins 2 Menston."
