WEST YORKSHIRE church bosses are supporting a Keighley campaign that condemns people who accept to exploit children.

The West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council (WYEC), which represents 11 traditions of Christian churches, sent a letter of support to the United Keighley movement.

United Keighley recently issued a statement, entitled All Our Young People Matter, to send a clear message attacking sexual grooming.

The Rev Dr Clive Barrett, executive secretary of the WYEC, sent the message of support to Safia Kauser, the Keighley town clerk.

The message said: “We are greatly supportive of the United Keighley initiative and welcome its statement affirming the well-being of all the children in the district."

Rev Dr Jonathan Pritchard, the Keighley Town Chaplain, encouraged all people across Keighley to sign the United Keighley statement.

He said: “I welcome this support from West Yorkshire churches. The United Keighley Statement shows how we care about Keighley and all our young people.

“Whatever our background or religion or ethnicity, we make our voices heard together.”
