UNDER-FIVES are being put to the test in this year's Rhyme Challenge.

Young children who manage to learn five rhymes off by heart could be in line to win big prizes, such as Gruffalo story sacks and musical instrument sets.

Bookstart Bear kicked off the annual challenge, run by the district's library service, when he popped along to a toddler group, Stepping Stones, in Buttershaw.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council's executive member for education, skills and culture, said: "This is a great way to introduce young children to our libraries.

"Parents have told us that they will sing more rhymes with their children after taking part in the challenge and it has also helped their children gain confidence, language development and concentration."

Parents wanting to take part in the Rhyme Challenge can contact Bradford Council's library early years development officer on (01274) 433684 to find out how to get involved.
