A MAN who appealed for help to bring his seriously-ill wife home has thanked the "fantastic" people who pledged more than £1,000 yesterday.

Gregg Ormondroyd's family was distraught after Donna (pictured) collapsed from a mystery condition at their home in Tyersal, Bradford, in August. She was placed in a medically-induced coma, before scans revealed massive brain damage.

Donna, 35, fought back from the brink of death but remains in Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Mr Ormondroyd started an appeal for help so she can be brought home to be with him and their children.

Yesterday, following the Telegraph & Argus' story about the family's plight, the amount of money pledged went from £1,200 to more than £2,500.

Mr Ormondroyd said: "It is massive, unbelievable, brilliant. I could not ask for anything better really - it is a massive help.

"It has been fantastic - thank you to everyone who has donated."

An 82-year-old man contacted the T&A to say he wanted to donate £50 to Mr Ormondroyd's appeal, but that he didn't have a computer. He will send the money in the post, and said: "It is one of the most touching things I have seen in the T&A."
