A TEENAGER, who threatened to kill a girl, 17, and sent her a tirade of abusive text messages, was branded a "disgrace" by a judge.

Sentencing Abu Khan to 14 months youth custody, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told him he had displayed "nasty, arrogant threats and verbal violence" of an unacceptable degree.

Bradford Crown Court heard that 18-year-old Khan, of Manningham Lane, Manningham, Bradford, went to the victim's home on October 23 this year, banged and kicked on the door and told her younger brother: "I know she's in there. I'm going to kill her."

Khan refused to leave, continued to bang on doors and threatened to smash a window.

The woman sent a message to a friend, who contacted police, and Khan was arrested.

He was found to have sent a number of abusive messages to the girl in the days before the incident, which became increasingly unpleasant.

Khan pleaded guilty to threats to kill. His barrister, Elyas Patel, said his client had been candid to police and his conduct had been limited to words.

Judge Durham Hall imposed a restraining order, without limit of time, and said: "Because I can't say how long it will be before you regain your senses, and she needs protecting."
