THE super-council in charge of West Yorkshire's public transport and economic growth has unveiled its first managing director.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), which was formed last year, has appointed Ben Still to the £150,000-a-year role.

Mr Still is joining WYCA from the Sheffield City Region, where he led the recent mayoral devolution deal negotiations.

He said: "I have enjoyed working with a wide range of colleagues in a number of roles in Sheffield City Region and now look forward to bringing that experience to West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

"This is an important time for West Yorkshire, Leeds City Region and the Combined Authority and I am keen to hit the ground running and help ensure we seize the opportunities available to us."

Mr Still is expected to start work in the New Year.

WYCA chairman Councillor Peter Box said: "I look forward to working with Ben over the coming years to turn West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s considerable ambitions into realities."
