A WOMAN remains in police custody today after being arrested on suspicion of murdering two young girls.

The children, just one and three years old, were stabbed to death in the Undercliffe area on Tuesday, and the 24 year old woman arrested shortly afterwards.

The identities of the children have still not been revealed, although it is understood that the children had moved to Bradford from a neighbouring area just a few days before the tragic incident.

A post mortem was performed on the two children yesterday, and more details about their identities could be revealed later today.

As of the Telegraph & Argus went to press, the woman remained in custody, and officers were continuing with their investigation. West Yorkshire Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Yesterday, specially trained officers from West Yorkshire Police spoke with the father of the two children.

The horror unfolded on Tuesday when paramedics responded to a report of an injured child at an address in Mint Street, contacted police at 11.28am yesterday after discovering the critically wounded girls.

Despite desperate efforts to save them, the children were both pronounced dead a short time later.

In the following hours the local community expressed its grief and shock that something so horrific could happen on their doorsteps.

And local councillors say the community is still struggling to come to terms with the incident as they wait for news on the identity of the children.

Councillor Imran Khan (Lab) is one of the ward councillors for the area, and said he was "lost for words" after the deaths. He said the community was still in shock over the incident, and that very little information about the children or the identity of the woman had surfaced. He said: "We still don't know who they are or what their backgrounds are. All we know is that the children had recently moved to the area."

Despite few people knowing who the children are, there have been numerous bouquets of flowers laid at the scene where police found the two children.
