CROWDS gathered in Bradford city centre this afternoon to pay a poignant tribute to PC Sharon Beshenivsky on the tenth anniversary of her murder.

A minute's silence was impeccably observed at 3.25pm, the time of the call to the travel agents in Morley Street, Bradford, where PC Beshenivsky was shot and fatally wounded while attending a robbery.

Members of PC Beshenivsky's family laid flowers at her memorial in the gardens, alongside others including Bradford District Commander, Chief Superintendent Simon Atkin, and the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds, who both gave tribute speeches.

Ch Supt Atkin said: "Sharon was a fantastic police officer, wife, mother, and Bradfordian.

"She is someone who contributed to policing and paid the ultimate price, on what on the face of it was a routine call that officers here in Bradford and across the country attend every day.

"It's plain for all to see that the cross-section of people who turned up on a horrible November day means that people in Bradford and across West Yorkshire are never going to forget Sharon, and rightly so."

Cllr Dodds said: "The people of Bradford owe a huge debt of gratitude to Sharon.

"She was an outstanding police officer whose life was taken protecting the community she loved."
