A CAST of young Bradfordians taking part in the first musical dedicated to the city gave a "fantastic" performance at the Alhambra Studio on Saturday night.

'There's No Place Like Bradford' was written and conceived by a group of 12 to 16 year olds from secondary schools across the district, who then worked with Bradford Music Service to put the show together.

The play hung on the narrative structure of the Wizard of Oz, with characters going on a journey from the days of Titus Salt right up to present-day Bradford.

Janine McGregor, a vocal teacher from Bradford Music Service who worked with the performers, said: "The performance went really well, and the kids were fantastic.

"The whole piece was written and devised by them, and for many it was their first experience of live performance.

"We are looking to develop the piece further next year, extending it from a 40-minute performance to two acts by getting more students and bands from the Bradford music hub involved.

"It's very much an ongoing project that we plan to return to."
