THE West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership has pinpointed junctions across Bradford district that it deems are 'sites for concern'.

The sites were chosen based on two criteria: ten or more accidents resulting in injury between 2010 and 2014; and four or more accidents resulting in injury during 2014.

Top of the list was Manchester Road at its junction with Smiddles Lane. The area saw 27 accidents - five serious - between 2010 and 2014. Thirteen of the collisions were caused by drivers ignoring traffic lights.

The partnership said investigations should be carried out into the timings of the traffic signals to "assess if the red light violations are due to them being misread, or are wilful events".

Manchester Road's junction with Croft Street and Seniors Way was second on the list, having seen 25 accidents - one serious - within the timeframe.

Eight of the accidents came after vehicles had gone through a red light, with at least two of them involving police cars or ambulances.

Again, the partnership recommended looking at the timings of the traffic lights.

Pedestrian misuse of the crossing at Hall Ings' junction with Bridge Street, in Bradford city centre, was given as the main reason for that area being placed third in the list.

In the time period there were 23 accidents - six of which were serious. Thirteen collisions involved pedestrians, with four involving people aged over 73 years.

The partnership said: "The level of pedestrian casualties being injured here remains a cause of concern and a review of provision should be made, including signal timings."

The top five was completed by Wakefield Road (at its junction with Rooley Lane and Sticker Lane) and Hamm Strasse (at its junction with Valley Road). Eleven of the 21 accidents at the Hamm Strasse junction were as a result of drivers going through red lights.

The rest of the top ten was: Barkerend Road (junction with Shipley Airedale Road); Killinghall Road (junction with Barkerend Road and Leeds Old Road); Shipley Airedale Road (junction with Croft Street); Leeds Road (junction with Shipley Airedale Road); and Manningham Lane (junction with Queens Road and Marlborough Road).
