A DRUG dealer has been jailed for three years after he was caught with a packet of high purity heroin and crack cocaine while on prison licence for peddling drugs at a Bradford supermarket.

Jason Walker, 39, was seen by the police throwing away 141 wraps of Class A drugs with a purity of up to 75 per cent, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

He was arrested on Bradford Road, Frizinghall, on May 12 and pleaded guilty to two offences of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Walker, formerly of Queens Road, Manningham, Bradford, but now of no fixed address, was sentenced on a video link to HMP Wealstun prison where he was in custody on remand.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp told the court Walker discarded 55 wraps of crack cocaine and 86 of heroin, with a total street value of £1,700, after he got out of a Volkswagen Golf car holding the drugs in a clenched fist.

He was not interviewed by the police because he did not want to answer any questions.

Walker was recalled to jail to serve the balance of a four year sentence imposed at Bradford Crown Court in April, 2013.

On that occasion, he was arrested in the car park of Morrisons in Thornton Road, Bradford, on June 19, 2012.

Police were tipped off that Walker and an accomplice were acting suspiciously.

He was found to have 22 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine in his jacket, down his trousers and in his sock.

Walker admitted possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

His solicitor advocate, Alistair Bateman, said yesterday he had run up a debt when the drugs were seized by the police in 2013.

He was coerced into dealing again on his release from jail to pay off the money he owed.

The court heard that Walker, a long-standing drug addict, had 52 previous convictions for 250 offences, including four for possession of drugs.

Judge Colin Burn warned him that a third conviction for supplying Class A drugs would lead to a minimum jail sentence of seven years.

He told him he was "not without sympathy" for him because he was addicted to Class A drugs and under pressure to deal.

Judge Burn made an order under the Proceeds of Crime Act to confiscate £80 in cash that Walker had on him when he was arrested.

He also ruled that the drugs would be forfeited and destroyed.
