AN 80-YEAR-OLD man with severe dementia sexually assaulted at least three women, a jury has found.

Mohammed Najeeb, 80, who is suffering from Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, was too ill to stand trial, but a jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday heard evidence from three women witnesses during a hearing into the finding of fact.

Prosecutor Gerald Hendron said it was alleged that Najeeb, of Grasmere Road, Bolton, Bradford, had sexually assaulted three women, two in Peel Park, Bradford, and one at a shop in the city, on separate occasions on dates in 2012 and 2014.

After hearing the evidence, the jury decided that Najeeb, who was not in court, had committed the acts.

Adjourning the case until November 30, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC said the sentence would be either a hospital order, which he said was unlikely, or some form of local authority supervision requirement.

The judge added that if he felt there was no risk he could give Najeeb an absolute discharge but he was hesitant to do that.

Judge Durham Hall said he would need information from a psychiatrist and GP involved in treating Najeeb, the local authority's adult social care department and Najeeb's family before sentencing.

He said the jury's decision gave him the power to protect others, but Najeeb's decline in health was such that he may not be a risk to anybody.
