SIR – I agree entirely with John Pashley regarding his views on the erecting of a statue to Geoffrey Brindley.

I don’t think that for one moment that he would have wanted this, or for that matter a big “send off”. He was a quiet unassuming man and this would have been very far from his mind.

I think as he was known all over Yorkshire a more fitting memorial would be a road or a street named after him in all the places he used to walk, from villages to towns.

I can just imagine his pleasure of people walking down all the “Brindley Walk” ways, and maybe as we ourselves walk down one, we could remember him and all the pleasure he gave with his smile and wave.
