BIN collections across the Spen Valley will change from next month.

From Monday, September 7, bins will be collected from Monday to Thursday and crews, starting at 7am, will work longer hours over those days.

Residents will get a letter through their door in the next week, detailing their new bin day and which colour bin to put out.

The letter will also include a calendar of collection dates until the end of 2016, including collections over Christmas, together with a list of what goes in each bin to help with recycling.

Kirklees Council said the changes will save almost £500,000 a year.

Councillor Cathy Scott, cabinet member for Housing and the Relief of Poverty, said: "We have looked at best practice elsewhere and worked with industry bodies like WRAP and APSE to develop the new delivery model.

"In the past we have resisted changing bin days for residents. Over time new estates and properties are added to rounds that unbalance them. We are now at a point where we need to deliver the most efficient service."
