TWO Bradford brothers are cycling from Sheffield to London for charity.

Conor and Asa Cusack, who grew up in Great Horton but now live in London, will be part of a group of 150 cyclists doing the challenge in aid of Middle East Children's Alliance.

The Big Ride event starts in Edinburgh on August 1, with the brothers joining it in Sheffield on August 5.

Conor, 40, who went to Queensbury Upper School and now works for Enfield Council, said: "I met the organiser Dermot Ward and was inspired to join this cycle to provide medical help to children injured and traumatised by Israel's bombing of Gaza last year.

"I felt frustrated at hearing about children suffering and this was at least something I could do to help."

Asa, 35, who studied at Buttershaw Upper School and now works as a researcher in international politics at the University of London, added: "The fact that 550 Palestinian children were killed during the bombing of Gaza last year is just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine the numbers wounded and maimed, not to mention the psychological impact on a population that couldn’t even flee to safety.

"As well as raising money, the Big Ride is trying to raise awareness of the desperate situation being imposed on the people of Gaza."

The pair have raised £1,200 so far towards a group total of £25,000. The target is £50,000. To donate, www.justgiving.com/Conor-Cusack1/ or http://bit.do/bigriders.
