A THIRTEEN week period of roadworks is set to begin on a busy main road near Pool-in-Wharfedale.
Leeds City Council has given advanced notice of a culvert replacement scheme that will take place on the A658 Pool Bank New Road, close to the Dyneley Arms - A660 Leeds Road - junction.
No start date has been announced yet for the work, which the authority says is essential to ensure the long-term safety of motorists and prevent flooding, but it is expected to begin in 'late summer / early autumn'.
Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) has been told that the Highways department intends to complete most of the project using single lane closures controlled by 24 hour traffic signals.
It is still, however, expected to have a significant impact on journey times.
In an attempt to minimise disruption, Highways also aims to manually control the signals between 7am and 7pm and to synchronise them with those at the Dyneley Arms junction.
A small number of short duration road closures, scheduled to take place early on a Saturday or Sunday at times of low traffic, will also be needed to safely lift the new concrete box units into place.
Residents in the area are to be contacted shortly with more details about the scheme, and will be invited to flag up any potential problems or concerns.
