A NEW outdoor play space, designed by young people for young people, has opened in Thorpe Edge, Bradford.
The new area was created on a disused plot of land behind the Springfield Centre thanks to a £500 from Bradford Council's local area committee and donations of materials from W.E Leach stone merchants in Shipley.
The area includes tree swings and a Stonehenge inspired stone seating circle.
To make the area as inclusive as possible, the play area will be open for young people even when the centre is shut. It is a partnership between the Bradford Youth Service, the Play Network and Woodland Adventures.
Local young people were involved in the plans from the start, and had a major say in what went on the site.
Helena Rhodes of the Bradford Youth Service, said: "It is a natural outdoor play space made up of natural materials, and it is to encourage children to play outside.
"They drew up designs of what they'd like to see. It is a bit like going back to how people used to play as kids, playing on things like tree swings."
