FAMILIES tripped the Light Fantastic as the National Media Museum opened its summer exhibition and activities this weekend.

Exhibitions and hands on activities allowed youngsters aged from five upwards to learn how to use light in a fun way at the city centre venue.

Attractions included a UV torch workshop where visitors could make their own ultra violet torch and discover the secrets of invisible light; a unique laser which projected galloping horses on to clouds from a light aircraft; The Superposition, which makes body parts disappear through an 'invisible cloak' and invisible sculptures come to life; and shadow puppet shows.

The museum is exhibiting some of its prestigious collection, including the world's first working TV system and one of the earliest X-ray machines.

Scout Millie Robinson, 14, said: "It's really good to do the interactive activities because you understand it better by doing it than just being told."

Liru Yang took her three young children to the exhibition and said: "It's fantastic. It's a nice place and we'll be coming back."

The Light Fantastic exhibition runs until November.
