FUNDRAISERS will be Walking for Wards tomorrow to support their local hospitals.

Among them will be Natalie Austin and colleagues who work in the Bowel Cancer Screening Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI).

They are raising as much as they can on the 6.5 mile circular walk, which starts at the hospital in Duckworth Lane.

Mrs Austin, 35, who is a Specialist Screening Practitioner, said: "To raise funds for the ward helping those who are diagnosed with cancer is what the team wants to do. Some of us who are taking part have been personally affected by knowing someone who has been touched by cancer so this is about giving something back."

The Bowel Cancer Screening Department is part of the National Bowel Screening Programme which is available to all 60 to 75-year-olds.

Home testing kits are sent out every two years and if any abnormality is detected, the patient is then called and seen by the screening department's staff.

About 16 to 20 patients are seen every week by staff who work between BRI and Airedale Hospital.

The Bradford walk is one of many events being organised across the country.
