SEVEN projects in the Bradford area want the public's help as they try to secure funding from a community grants programme.

Four cash pots of up to £25,000, and 15 of up to £5,000, are available through the OneFamily Foundation scheme.

There are 33 projects across Yorkshire and the Humber vying for the money, with voting closing on Monday.

A OneFamily spokesman said: "Community awards are available to apply for every year. You just need to be a OneFamily customer and know of something that you want to make better in your community.

"The public can help the projects realise their goal of making something better in their corner of the world by voting for the projects that matter to them."

The seven nominations from Bradford area are: The Friends of Wycliffe Primary School in Shipley; Step2Young People's Health Project; Woodhouse Lane Play Area in Brighouse; Trinity Transformed in Bingley; the Friends of West End Park in Cleckheaton; Cottingley Town Hall Community Centre; and Raise Your Voice in Pudsey.

The Friends of Wycliffe want to help install an all-weather pitch at the school. Group chairman Jean Pine said: "We have been raising money to improve the outdoor space at school. Securing funding from the OneFamily Foundation would be a massive boost enabling us to complete the first stage of our improvement plan.

"We would really appreciate it if as many people as possible voted for our project to help us secure the most votes to win this funding."

Step2 want funding to provide lunches and positive activities during school holidays for children and young people in extremely deprived areas.

A spokesman said: "It is necessary because of family fuel poverty, food poverty and a lack of access to good quality fresh food, which means the young people suffer hunger and lack of nourishment over holiday periods as they are reliant on free school meals."

The group behind the Woodhouse Lane bid want to improve the play area and create a modern, accessible, multi-age play facility and community space. A spokesman said: "Our plans have been defined in consultation with local residents, school and nursery children and will benefit around 6,000 local people."

Trinity Transformed want to build a climbing log sculpture trail for children and adults, recreate a wildlife pond, and create a sensory peace garden. A spokesman said: "We want to promote mental well-being and healthy lifestyles for families living in high and low rise flats."

The Friends of West End Park said: "The park was unloved before the group was formed. It has worked hard to make it a great wildlife friendly community space. It has been thoughtfully landscaped taking into account the needs of the local community - from groups of elderly people who meet, sit on the new benches and enjoy company, to local schools, nurseries and football clubs."

Grade two-listed Cottingley Town Hall Community Centre - famous for its association with the Cottingley Fairies - needs new windows. A spokesman said: "Because of damp we need windows which we can open."

Raise Your Voice wants to keep providing a community choir for Pudsey. A spokesman said: "It is for the community choir to continue to grow in numbers and to make new friends and grow in confidence."
