THE University of Bradford has been named as one of the top ten best green universities in the world.

Architecture website DesignCurial ranked thousands of universities based on green architecture, innovative green technologies and other green initiatives the universities take part in, with institutions across the world landing a spot in the top ten.

The University of Bradford (pictured) came in at number eight, with the judges referring to its top environmental ratings. It makes it the top green university in the UK.

The website says: "The University of Bradford is powering ahead with green initiatives; achieving an Outstanding BREEAM rating - the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding rating for a university - for the Bright Building, and decreasing its carbon footprint by 35 per cent since a decade ago.

"The building has implemented many environmental features including natural ventilation, photovoltaics and air source heat pumps, high levels of insulation and biological materials such as hemp and timber in the basis of the main structure.

"Over the last decade the university has reduced its utility spend and saved over £7 million, keeping in mind that the same market has shown prices augment 85 per cent during the same time period."

Coming top of the list is the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which was completed last year.
