A 67-year-old man was fighting for his life today after being seriously assaulted in the Thornbury area of Bradford on Sunday night.
Police were called to Leeds Road at 7.15pm after being alerted by paramedics to a report of an unconscious man lying in the street.
The victim, who has not been named, was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary with head injuries and later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary. His condition is described as critical.
Police are continuing to conduct inquiries in the area but have said they believe the pensioner became involved in a confrontation with a group of Asian youths and was then assaulted.
Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident.
