A TOTAL of 4,919 people were helped by Trussell Trust foodbanks in Bradford over the last year, and the organisation is now setting up a third outlet in the district.

The Bradford Central Foodbank handed out emergency food supplies to 4,767 people from April 2014 to March 2015, and the Bradford North Foodbank, which opened in January, helped 152 people.

This compares to a total of 5,226 people receiving help in Bradford during 2013/14, and 2,412 in 2012/13.

Last year increased demand for foodbanks throughout the district meant the Central Foodbank was no longer able to provide foods to people from certain postcode areas as its resources were becoming overstretched.

Instead a second foodbank was set up to cover the BD2, BD9, BD10, BD17, and BD18 postcodes, as well as Calverley village in LS28.

BD2, BD9, BD10, BD17, BD18 and Calverley Village in LS28.

And The Central operation now concentrates just on the BD1 postcode area only.

A third foodbank is expected to open in Wyke in the next few months. The Trussell Trust’s foodbanks are run in partnership with churches and communities.
