HOTELS in Bradford were among those seeing ‘stellar’ trading in 2014, according to a new report from accountants BDO.

It says Yorkshire hotels outperformed London rivals in the race for revenue growth, according to the Hotel Britain 2015 report.

In Bradford, hotels saw revenue per available room increase by 9.7 per cent over the previous year, compared with growth in London venues of just 0.7 per cent.

Bradford venues also achieved higher room prices, with an average increase of 5.7 per cent to £38.71 in the district.

Strong demand pushed occupancy in regional hotels up to 75.1 per cent – the first time it has surpassed 75 per cent for over 10 years. York was the best performing city outside of London, operating at an an 82 per cent occupancy level.

Tom Roseff, BDO director in Yorkshire, said: “For the first time in 14 years, regional hotels have outperformed their London counterparts and Yorkshire has been a key player in that success story; particularly Leeds and York. Sheffield and Bradford’s investment in the budget segment of the market has also clearly paid dividends.

“The phenomenal occupancy levels across the region reflect both increasing consumer confidence as well as the significant boost to the local economy arising from last year’s Le Grand Depart."

“We expect the sector to continue on this upward trajectory, particularly with the upcoming Tour de Yorkshire.”
