A SALTAIRE man who is gradually losing his sight hopes to go well past his fundraising target before taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday.

Jonathan Wensley, 33, of Titus Street, who suffers from a degenerative eye condition, had hoped to raise £1,650 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People. But online pledges have already surpassed that target, so Mr Wensley now hopes to hit the £2,000 mark.

He was inspired to run the marathon after months of physiotherapy to help him recover from a badly broken leg.

The health and safety manager for a food manufacturing company said he was trained and ready to go.

“The support has been amazing. It has gone really well, but it would be great to hit the £2,000 mark,” he said.
