A BRADFORD drug dealer, who was caught with a significant amount of heroin, has been jailed for almost five years.

Detectives vowed that peddling drugs would not be tolerated in the Bradford district after 32-year-old Nathan Dore was locked up yesterday.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, sitting at Sheffield Crown Court, sentenced Dore to a total of 56 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to possessing class A drugs, heroin, with intent to supply.

Dore also admitted a charge of possessing class B drugs, cannabis. The judge imposed no separate penalty for that offence.

Officers swooped as Dore drove a Vauxhall Zafira in Bowling Hall Road, East Bowling, at 7.50pm on February 11 this year. They discovered around six kilos of heroin in a black holdall in the boot.

A search of Dore's home, in Bierley House Avenue, Bierley, Bradford, revealed a further 12 kilos of heroin, along with a small amount of cannabis for his own use, and mobile phones.

The total street value of the heroin was estimated at £845,000.

Detective Sergeant Steve Banks, of Bradford District CID, said after the case: "Officers recovered a significant amount of heroin from searches of Dore's car and house - drugs which were almost certainly destined for the streets of Bradford and beyond."

Det Sgt Banks said the arrest had been part of ongoing inquiries into drugs trafficking. The car had been spotted and stopped by roads policing officers. Dore was the only occupant.

The haul of heroin was found packaged up in the holdall.

Det Sgt Banks said a search of Dore's semi-detached house found larger quantities of heroin which had been cut and ready to be broken down for further distribution across Bradford and West Yorkshire.

Dore, who had no previous convictions for drugs offences, admitted the charge at the earliest opportunity.

Det Sgt Banks added: "We are pleased with the message this sentence sends out. It gives the public the confidence that if they report these matters the police and the courts will take it seriously.

"The use and supply of Class A drugs will not be tolerated in Bradford District and we would urge anyone with information about suspected drug use or supply to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
